On May 3, 2014, Susan and I attended the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival for the first time. We went with three friends: Maria, Julie and Jon. Maria asked us to go because she wanted to see Bruce Springsteen. Although we are not Springsteen fans, we knew the festival would be fun.
We arrived in New Orleans on the Friday before. We just hung around the French Quarter for the first night. Maria and Julie had a tarot card reading.
The next morning, we got an early start and headed to the festival. To the right, is Susan and I as we entered the festival. The festival opened at 11. We got there about 12:30, just in time to sample some of the traditional New Orleans food.
The festival is the largest one we have ever attended. We might have seen half of it in the one day we were there. Susan was excited to see a pow wow that was hosted by several different Indian nations. The photograph to the left is Susan with the Indians after the pow wow.
We were not able to see Springsteen. We got to the stage too late. It was packed. We did get to see Better than Ezra and Foster the People. We enjoyed both concerts.

On December 5, 2009, Susan and I traveled to Ft. Walton Beach to see All American Rejects in concert. Our friend Dan and his friend Kristina went with us. The concert was held at the beach bar, the Swamp. This concert was very interesting. We met a lot of people. Several people seemed to hang around with us for awhile. One guy showed up with a pale of liquor and a pitcher of beer. He hung around us for most of the concert. He kept telling us how the Air Force kicked him out. We had a very good time. It was cold. It started sleeting on the way home. Here is a photograph of us during the concert. Click on the photograph to view the entire gallery.
On October 19, 2009, Susan and I went to a Kiss concert in Pensacola. I was able to get two free tickets at the last moment. Buckcherry opened for Kiss. This was our second time seeing Buckcherry. Kiss sounded good. They put on quite a pyrotechnic show. At the concert we ran into two of our friends, Maria and Jessica. Here is a photograph of Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley during the concert. On October 9, 2009, we went to a U2 concert in Tampa, FL. We made a weekend trip out of the concert. Several of our friends went with us. A total of eight people left Pensacola to see U2. We rented two houses in Ybor City. The night we arrived we just hung out at the houses. The following day Maria woke everyone up early to go to Ikea. Maria fell in love with Ikea. Since I had my truck, Maria wanted to buy some furniture. Maria woke us up so early that we actually arrived to Ikea before the store even opened.
That night was the concert. The concert was held at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Stadium. Muse opened for U2. Before the concert we did not know who Muse was. We liked several of the songs. Muse sounded very good in person. U2 played next. This concert was called the 360 tour. The name was after the 360 degree stage that U2 played on. There was a massive LED screen that expanded above the stage. This concert was the largest and best concert that Mike and Susan ever attended. Most of the songs were known by the audience, who sang along most of the time. After the concert we went back to Ybor City and continued the party. The photograph on the right is Susan and I with U2 playing in the background.
Maria thought it would be funny to short sheet our bed. Maria took the sheets and tucked the majority of them under the bed. Susan and I were a little intoxicated when we went to bed and could not figure out what was wrong with the sheets. We slept that way for the night. Maria got a kick out of it. Maria later reversed the sheets so they were coming from the head of the bed and not the foot. To get Maria back, Dan and I took Maria’s mattress out of her room and hid it in the other house. When Maria went to go to bed, she realized all she had was a box spring covered by a comforter. She came back to the other house and drug her mattress back. The photograph on the left is Dan and I sitting next to Maria’s mattress.
On the day after the concert, most of us went to the Tampa Aquarium. Maria, Edward and Cory had to leave early. They went to Orlando for another trip. We had a nice time at the aquarium. After the aquarium, we watched college football at the houses we rented. Dan and my team were playing at the same time. We setup two television in one of the living rooms to keep track of both games. The photograph on the right is of us watching college football. After the games were over, we walked around Ybor City. We went into several bars. One was the famous Coyote Ugly.

On May 3, 2007, Susan and I saw Buckcherry in concert. The concert was held at Pensacola Beach, at Capt’n Funs Beach Club. We went to the concert with several friends. Mike used one of his contacts at Capt’n Funs and had her compact disc signed by the members of the band. The concert was very good. Buckcherry sounded good live. Here is a photograph of Mike and Susan backstage with Buckcherry playing in the background.

During Spring Break 2007, we headed south for Orlando, Florida. We were able to stay at one of my mom’s timeshares, the Sunshine Resort. While in Orlando, we got a three day play pass at Walt Disney World. This was everyone, except Susan’s, first time at Waly Disney World.
On the first day (Tuesday), we visited the Magic Kingdom. At Magic Kingdom we were able to ride almost every ride. At the end of the night we caught the fireworks show before heading back to the resort to prepare for day two.
On day two of our adventure at Walt Disney World we visited the Animal Kingdom. Animal Kingdom was my favorite park. There was a motorized palm tree that interacted with people as we waited to enter the park in the morning. The palm tree was quite funny and even spoke Japanese at one point. While at Animal Kingdom we went on a jungle safari, visited the petting zoo, saw several plays and rode most of the rides. Our favorite ride was Expedition Everest. The photograph below was the tree of life at Animal Kingdom.
On our third and final day at Walt Disney World we visited MGM Studios. At this park we saw several nice stunt shows. We also rode the Tower of Terror and the Rocking Roller Coaster rides. At the end of the night there was a laser light show, Fantasmic, that was well done. Lasers were reflected off of water falls to show various Disney characters.
Unfortunately we only had three days to spend at theme parks. We plan to go back to Orlando to see Epcot, Sea World, Universal Studios and some of the water parks.
