Mall Ball 2013

On 01/26/13, Susan and I attended another Mall Ball. The ball is a fundraiser for the local DSC00999children’s hospital. We were joined by their friends, Ron and Brandy. While at the ball, I saw one of my coworkers, Nicole and her husband, Eric.

We look forward to the Mall Ball every year. About 50 vendors come out and serve a broad selection of food. Here is a photograph of Susan, Ron, Brandy, and I before they went to the Mall Ball.

Mardi Gras 2012 (Pensacola)

In 2012, Aaron’s birthday was the same day as the Pensacola Friday night parade. We took Aaron mardigras2012and two of his friends to the parade. We also brought Forrest for the first time.  Bringing Forrest ended up being a bad idea though. Forrest did not like the loud noises. The boys did very well catching beads and other items. I brought a ladder to help the boys get attention over other people. Aaron enjoyed his 13th birthday. Afterward we ate some pie to celebrate the day.

Mardi Gras 2012 (NOLA)

During the first weekend in February 2012, we traveled to New Orleans. Originally, we planned to go to New Orleans to see the Red Hot Chilli Peppers in concert. However, the concert neworleans2012was cancelled because the lead singer had to undergo surgery. We decided to still make the trip. Our friends Erik and Shannon joined us. On Saturday night we went to two Mardi Gras parades that were in the French Quarter. The parades were quite short and threw few things. We were disappointed with the parades to say the least. We took a horse carriage ride around the French Quarter, which was the highlight of our trip. The carriage was actually pulled by a mule though. The photograph on the right is Susan and I after we ate dinner at the Crazy Lobster. The restaurant was on the Mississippi River.

Krewe of Lafitte Ball 2011

On March 4, 2011, we attended the Krewe of Lafitte Ball in Pensacola, FL.  The Krewe of Lafitte is kolball2011the largest krewe in Pensacola.  We were invited by our friends, Jeff and Cathy Brown. The ball was held at the civic center directly after the krewe’s night parade. Susan and I enjoyed the ball. Josh Sitton, an offensive guard for the Green Bay Packers, who just came off of a Super Bowl win, attended the ball.  The Krewe is an all male krewe.

Mardi Gras 5k Run

On 02/11/12, Aaron and I ran in the Mardi Gras 5k fun run. The run benefited the Special mardigras5kOlympics. I decided to dress in Mardi Gras attire for the run. The run was unique as the route was entirely on a golf course. During the route, you looped some areas three times, which became confusing at times. In fact, I thought I was finished when I still had about a quarter of a mile to go. I ended up finishing fourth overall. I received a trophy and a gift certificate for a restaurant. Aaron ran pretty fast as well. In fact, near the end he passed his former P.E. teacher! Susan and Forrest cheered on the runners. Forrest wasn’t sure what to do with all of the attention.

Mall Ball 2011

On February 5, 2011, we attended our fifth consecutive Mardi Gras Mall Ball. Before the ball we went to a friend of a friend’s house for a pre-party. After leaving the pre-party we went to Cordova mallball2011Mall for the ball. Susan got a new dress for this year’s ball. I actually saw the dress while working Dillard’s and wanted Susan to wear it. I had to get a new tuxedo after loosing weight. My old tuxedo swallowed him whole. This was my first time wearing a tuxedo with a traditional tie rather than bow tie. There didn’t seem to be as many people at the Mall Ball as previous years. We enjoyed many of the entrees. My favorite was the crawfish étouffée from the Oar House. Susan’s had two favorite entrees. She loved the sushi from the Fish House and the crab cakes from Landry’s. Here is a photograph of us that Aaron took before we left for the ball.

Mardi Gras 2010

We enjoyed Mardi Gras in New Orleans so much in 2009, that we decided to go back to New Orleans for Mardi Gras 2010. This year, Mardi Gras fell between Susan and the boys’ birthdays. mardigras2010The weather was very cold in New Orleans for the parades. Our friend Maria went with us to New Orleans. Maria works with me. She lived in New Orleans for several years. She was looking forward to seeing some of the parades she saw as a child. We went to one of the night parades on Canal Street. The girls got cold and went back to the hotel room early. I stayed for the last parade of the night. During the parade I caught a mask, a deck of cards and a set of plastic cups. On the right is a photograph of at the Friday night parade.

mardigras20102On Saturday, we met mom at a day parade. Mom was watching Brian and Aaron for us. We all attended the Krewe of Endymion parade. The president of the New Orleans Saints was in the parade. Many of the parades were celebrating the Saints win in the Super Bowl. After the day parade, we headed to Bourbon Street. Maria met several of her friends that traveled from out of town. We enjoyed another Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans. The photograph on the left is Susan and I at the Krewe of Endymion parade.

Mall Ball 2010

On January 30, 2010, we attended the Mardi Gras Mall Ball. Like most years, we knew quite a few mallball2010people at the ball. For this ball, we rented two hotel rooms near the mall. After the Mall Ball we went to Emerald City to meet some of our friends that went to a different Mardi Gras ball. We had a wonderful time. Every Mardi Gras we look forward to the balls. Here is a photograph of Susan and I before the Mall Ball.

Mardi Gras 2009

Mardi Gras 2009 was our first Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Susan and I have experienced mardigras2009Mardi Gras in Pensacola and Mobile, but never in New Orleans. So this year, we visited my mom in New Orleans on the weekend before Fat Tuesday. We went to one night parade and two Saturday parades. The parades were held on February 20th and 21st. Kid Rock was a celebrity guest of Krewe of Endymion. The parades were the best we have seen. The floats were well done. Tractors pulled the floats, instead of trucks. Susan and I also visited Bourbon street to witness the chaos of the after party. We ran into one of our Pensacola friends, Ricky. Here is a photograph of Susan and Brian at the Saturday parade.

Mall Ball 2009

On February 7, 2009, we attended the Mall Ball. We have become accustomed to going to the Mallmallball2009 Ball each year. We saw many of our friends at the mall ball. This year, three of the four Pensacola crime scene analysts were at the mall ball. After the mall ball several people from the ball went to Seville Quarter to continue dancing the night away.

Here is a photograph of part of the group.
